It is the ideal system available for maximal toughness, making a coating with twice the thickness of our usual commercial or residential process. Floors that experience considerable loads, such as from heavy-duty forklifts, should be covered with trowel grade epoxy. Trowel grade also is recommended if concrete contact with caustic or corrosive chemicals is common.

One point about trowel grade epoxy is that because it is thicker, more curing time is likely necessary. There are additionally ideal conditions for adding trowel grade floors. Above 70 degrees Fahrenheit, F, the epoxy will solidify in 8-12 hours and the protective clear coat that goes on top should cure in the same space of time. At that moment, it is okay to walk on the epoxy coat, but the final cure requires seven days. Below 70 degrees Fahrenheit, F it takes added time for sufficient curing and if the temperature drops below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, F, the thickness of a trowel grade epoxy coating really should not be attempted. So, this is usually a late spring, summer, or early fall job.
