Urethane Concrete

Urethane concrete is the most durable form of coating that West Coast Epoxy can apply. While a trowel grade epoxy coating is very strong, urethane concrete (also called urethane cement) is even stronger. That’s because it uses urethane to bind together an engineered cement powder that when fully cured has the flexibility of epoxy combined with the strength of concrete. The thickness of urethane concrete coatings can also be stretched to limits not seen with epoxy coatings, yet the material retains its ability to be shaped for use with coved and beveled floors.

Ideal Applications of Urethane Concrete

Although epoxy coatings are ideal for covering floors that see exposure to hot and cold liquids on a regular basis, the concrete underneath can still face thermal expansion and contraction from the changes in floor temperature. By applying a thick layer of urethane concrete over the foundation of such facilities, not only do you strengthen the floor, but you also increase its thermal resistance. That makes urethane concrete ideal for use in plants, workshops and factories for the following trades:

  • Pharmaceutical facilities
  • Beverage production
  • Food production
  • Wash facilities
  • Areas with extreme annual temperature changes, like the Sierra Mountain Range.

Urethane coatings can be colored to match existing flooring schemes or to differentiate work areas. They come in many different types, and West Coast Epoxy helps our Sacramento and Northern California clients choose the best formula based on their needs.
