Although solid, concrete is in fact porous. Water can be wicked up by concrete and travel through it. Along the way, the water surrounds salts in the concrete and carries them to the surface. Once this water reaches the surface and evaporates, the salts are left behind. This creates the ugly white product that often forms on concrete called efflorescence. To stop efflorescence, you need concrete moisture remediation.
If you notice joints or cracks in your floor that don’t completely dry, this points to a significant cache of moisture underneath your slab. Some people try to cover the problem with tile or low-quality epoxy. Without a quality sealant, however, the water finds its way through, resulting in loose tiles or coatings that bubble and peel away. Then the problem is worse and more costly to repair.
What to Do About Groundwater
Some moisture challenges are severe enough that in addition to sealing the foundation, you simultaneously need to take other measures outside the building. But when the issue is just in the concrete, our epoxy sealing technique is sufficient to waterproof the concrete so that you can safely install ceramic tile, carpet, laminate, or wood floors.
The moisture remediation procedure benefits a concrete floor of any age and is fast enough to avoid significant delays for planned renovations. If you have any questions about moisture remediation during your renovation or building project, please give West Coast Epoxy a call or schedule a free consultation online for assistance in Hayward.
